It never ceases to amaze me as to in the times of hardship and strife how all kinds of people – from all background, ethnicities and religions – come together to lend a helping hand and expect absolutely nothing in return! Such a great feeling.
And during this time of self and required quarantine due to the CoronaVirus, the generosity of people all comes to the surface. There are several churches, and other religious faiths, and businesses that have come to the aid of those in need. In particular the homeless and those who just need a meal and a smiling face. So we bind together and offer a helping hand and something to eat. And by the way, all of the food products and individual help are all donated! To these businesses, people and churches, Thank-You! Our part was at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 9th and State Streets, Boise. (Left-Click any of these photographs to see them enlarged!)

Look at these meals. Usually fro 45 to 60 served on the 4th Thursday of each month at the 1st Presbyterian Church at 9th and State Streets in Boise. (The room and all facilities included, including the full kitchen!)

We did have a good visit to Deja Brew – Laugh A Latte in Meridian on March 23, 2018 at 112 East Idaho Avenue, Meridian, ID 83642. Phone – (208) 957-6442. Hours – Mon: 6:30AM-8:00PM, Tue: 6:30AM-8:00PM, Wed: 6:30AM-8:00PM, Thu: 6:30AM-9:00PM, Fri: 6:30AM-9:00PM, Sat: 6:30AM-9:00PM, Sun: 6:30AM-3:00PM. Good ambiance with plenty of open seating. It can be a little noisy, though; They need to turn the music back somewhat. You must order your food at the counter, but they will generally bring it to your table. They do have a good Breakfast/Lunch Menu with many varieties of coffee and tea. Their Dinner/Wine/Beer Menu, with a good selection of beer and wine. We will return to this bistro in Meridian. It is definitely a 4-Star restaurant/bistro. Here are some photos. Enjoy!

Virginia Dare Pinot Noir. A really good wine that goes well with my breakfast of Eggs Benedict and Robin’s Cobb Salad. Surprising. And yes, it is made in Virginia with Russian River (CA) grapes.

I had Eggs Benedict. The potatoes were good. Different. Just a little salty.

17Sept2015_2a_Alavita_Happy-RobinShrimp! Plenty of shrimp! 2 pounds of 25 count on a 12″ pizza! No tomato or Alfredo. Just shrimp and mozzarella! Make your own crust or use, as we did, a Boboli crust. In less than an hour, you are eating some really good pizza. That is, if you like shrimp! And then for a further treat, shred some iceberg lettuce and add pineapple chunks, with juice, and shredded fresh basil leaves and you have a wonderful salad to add to your dinner. Here is the recipe., Enjoy!

Shrimp Scampi Pizza

Source: adapted from Sal Yonta’s Shrimp Scampi Pizza
Total Time: 50 min Prep: 35 min Cook: 15 min Yield: 10 slices Level: Easy

Ingredients:
20 oz Pizza Dough or 1 Boboli Thin Crust pizza shell
2 1/4 lbs Shrimp, peeled and deveined. 1/2 lbs reserved whole
1 t Old Bay Seasoning, or to taste
3 T Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
3 T minced Garlic (about 8 cloves)
6 oz Button Mushrooms, quartered
1/2 c dry White Wine
1 stick unsalted Butter, at room temperature
1/4 c Italian Seasoned Bread Crumbs
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 lbs shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F.
2. Stretch the pizza dough to make a 16-inch pizza. Place on a pizza screen and set aside. Or use a 12″ Boboli crust.
3. In a food processor, add the shrimp, along with the Old By Seasoning, and coarsely chop. In a medium skillet over high heat, heat the olive oil until very hot. Add the shrimp and garlic, sauté for 4 minutes, until shrimp turns lightly pink. Add the mushrooms.
4. Add the wine and stir. Reduce by 1/2. Add the butter and heat until melted. Then add in the breadcrumbs. Remove from the heat and season the shrimp with salt and pepper.
5. Spread half of the mozzarella over the pizza crust, then spoon the shrimp mixture over the cheese. Top with the remaining cheese. Top with 1/2 pound of whole shrimp. Bake until golden brown, 5 to 8 minutes. Let cool a few minutes before cutting.

It’s winter! Snow in the mountains where it should be. In the high 20’s at night. And the Boise Farmers Market has moved inside at 8th and Fulton in the Linen Building. Free parking for the first hour, but you will need to get a receipt for that hour at the pay booth. They are open each Saturday now, through December 19th, from 9am – 2pm. Then we go through “Produce Withdrawl”. You can follow the BFM on their website at Boise Farmers Market. Be sure to sign up for their newsletter on their web page. Here are two photos that I took this morning at The Market. I have my specific vendors who I look for: Meadowlark Farms, Purple Sage Produce, Rollingstone Chevre, Acme Bakeshop, Desert Mountain Farms, True Roots Produce, Gaston’s Bakery, Next Generation Organics, The Mushroom Farm and Neckar Coffee, to name a few. I was asked this morning, “Why do you come to the market?” I told him: I go to see the people. To visit with the farmers. To support our local farmers as much as possible. To make “my rounds” at the above listed farmers. And I miss the Market between December 20th and March 1st. I totally believe in Buying Local and I support that philosophy as much as possible.

They are now serving a wonderful Sunday Brunch from 12 noon to 5:00pm. The space indoors is limited in the winter season to about 25 seats. The deck is open in season. Wonderful owners. Wonderful location. Wonderful food. The wine pictured is really a good Rosé of Merlot. Not too sweet and with a little spice to it. It was named after their daughter. You might want to call for reservations if you have 4 or more people. Or visit their website at Parma Ridge Wine and Spirits. From their website, “Tasting Room hours are 12-5 p.m., Friday – Sunday. Now open for Happy Hour Friday from 4-7 p.m. Join us for a glass of wine, a bite of food and take in the amazing view!” Enjoy the creations of Chef Storm and/or the artwork of Stephanie. They have a very small kitchen area and they want to be able to make more of their pastries. You can visit their website at Rembrandt’s Coffee House. In place of the breakfast, they will be serving fresh baked muffins, scones, quiches, pastries, oatmeal, granola and grab and go lunches – fresh made deli type sandwiches. They will still have their fresh ground coffees. (See the notice below) Definitely a 4-Star restaurant. Well worth the trip to Eagle.

17Sept2015_1d_Janjou_Janjou-CoffeeToday is Robin’s 43rd anniversary of her 29th birthday so when I asked her what she wanted for breakfast, she said a quiche from Janjou Pâtisserie. That sounded good, so off we went. (It’s only 2 blocks away from us!) If anything, it has gotten better. The Quiche Lorraine we had was delicious. The coffee is still excellent – we bought a pound – and the fruit tart we had was scrumptious. You must try it when you are in Boise. Make a special trip. You’ll love it. 5-Stars all the way. Enjoy these photos!

They have a full and extensive Menu that can be viewed online and get an idea of what they offer. Not ready for dinner? Try their Happy Hour Menu for lighter offerings. “… Our Sizzle, Swizzle and Swirl Happy Hour features $8 food specials and premium cocktails.” You will find the menu items either equal to or greater than Chandler’s Steak House or to the Cottonwood Grille. Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Boise is definitely a 5-Star restaurant. Here is what we had. Two of us ate for $123.00 and it was worth every bite. Definitely a Special Occasion restaurant; Great for “Date Night”.. Enjoy!

Petite Filet. "USDA Prime served sizzling on a 500° plate - every bite is as delicious as the first." This was delicious! Loved the way the sides came in their own bowls. The Creamed Spinach was super good wsith a touch of nutmeg. The Mushrooms accompanied the steak very well. Robin had Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

Great and varied menu and a really super Waite staff. Asiago’s – Look out! We hope, Sophia, that you enjoyed your Birthday Meal as much as we enjoyed celebrating with you. We were lucky enough to make reservations – Thousand Springs BNB and Feathered Winds Wine – and be there for their monthly wine dinner. This particular dinner featured wines from south of the equator. Good and interesting food paring with the wines. Great time talking to the folks at our table and at other tables. The grilled lemon – peel and all – was delicious grilled like this.

And as a note – This Icelandic lamb was awesome. It melted in your mouth!

Other wines served with dinner were: Shingleback Black Bubbles (Australia), Jacob’s Creek Sweet Red (Australia), Massimo Malbec (Argentina) and 2012 Santa Rita Cabernet (Chile). Then the next morning, we had breakfast – no wine, although we could have had some.
