Flying Pie Pizza

03Nov2015_1g_Richards-Cafe-Vicino_Red-WineWell, tomorrow at this time who knows where I’ll be. Open heart surgery to start at 0530. Do people actually move around at that hour? But I am so thankful for Marnie, Mac, Carlynne – Robin’s sister who came to help all the way from Delaware – Chris and my Super RN’s who are always in my thoughts – Robin, Roli and Cristi. They will hold my hand as will my sister Peggy and my brother Alex, although they will be long distance.
But one must eat first. Carlynne took us all out for pizza last night at Flying Pie Pizza and it was super, although I think the service is really getting slooooooow. The pizza is still great; The service is not. Thanks Carlynne for this treat. I also came across this chart which helps to figure out recipes if you must change the size and servings. A conversion chart of sorts. Enjoy and I will see you all in about a week. Cheers! Left-Click any of these photos to see them enlarged.

Acme Bake Shop, Blaze pizza, speciality pizza

BobAndRobin_Nov2009_1_Pizzalchik_PhotoOne joy of writing and publishing these ideas, is that we get asked to go to new restaurants and and report on their fare. So today, since it is not snowing or raining but rather 61 degrees, we went to the Acme Bake Shop physical bakery – we have never been there – to pick up our Thanksgiving bread order. Then we went to a new pizza restaurant in Meridian, Idaho, Blaze Pizza. They are located at 2206 N. Eagle Rd., Meridian, ID 83646 (208) 855-9139. You can order online! Here are some photos of our visits. Enjoy!

Acme-Bake-Shop_Mar2014Like I said above, we started off by visiting Acme Bake Shop in 221 W 37th Street, Suite B, Garden City, Idaho. (208) 284-5580. And we are still convinced that this is the best bread in the Boise area. That’s a bold statement but one we stand by. Their breads are baked daily and from local products. Their Rye is the old world style, full of caraway and not a swirl rye, which is a rye “wanna be”. Look at these photos of the bakery and of some of the breads we bought today. Enjoy!!

The breads we bought – Pull Apart Dinner Rolls, Michael’s Sourdough, Rye, Hot Cross Buns and Cranberry Sourdough. Still warm! Sooooooooooo fresh! You can also find them at the Boise Farmers Market and at the Boise COOP.

26Nov2014_2_Foodie-Guild-RestVisits_Blaze-Pizza_SignNow off to Blaze Pizza, located at 2206 N Eagle Road, Meridian, Idaho. (208) 855-9139. A good selection of 11″ pizzas, from a Build Your Own to their Signature Pizzas. Here is a link to Blaze Pizza Menu. (You can download the menu, too.) See these photos of this new Meridian area restaurant. If you are in the area shopping, this makes for a great break. Stop in and have a speciality pizza and a cool drink.

Some of the dining area with the pizza making area in the background. My one critisism of the dining area is that it is very "noisey". The sounds echo off of flat, hard surfaces which amplifies the sounds. They need some sound buffers.

The hot oven works fine and gives the pizza crust a unique, fire-roasted flavor. I like that, especially on a thin crust. The Baker must be aware that this process can cause the crust to go to "cracker" consistency.

Our pizza, a Signature Meat Lovers. The lady constructing this pizza asked if I wanted some herbs - oregano. I said yes and she put about a pinch on this 11" pizza. Also, I count 12 pieces of onion - there could really be more. And some garlic. There could also be more pepperoni and more sausage. I'm not saying cups more, but a small handful more. No space between the pepperoni.

The Bottom Line: Great service people. Friendly, helpful and cheerful. Great to see. They seem to like their work. Very noisy environment – noises echo. Increase the amount of toppings, slightly. Cost of the product is good. Robin and I come from 20 miles south of South Philly! The Italian section. We grew up on pizza, subs, steak sandwiches and Bob Horn’s Bandstand. Our benchmark pizzas are Angie’s, Newark, DE. (No longer in existence.), Grotto Pizza, Rehoboth Beach, DE and Pittsburg, PA. PizzalChik, Boise, ID and Flying Pie Pizza in Boise. Blaze Pizza has big shoes to fill – a great challenge.

If you are in the Meridian area shopping, this will make a great stop. Out of 5-Stars, we rate Blaze Pizza 3-Stars for the reasons stated. We will return at some point in time. 3-Stars is not a bad rating, but we can see where they could use some improvement. Go and enjoy the pizza and be sure to let us know what you think. Cheers!

Homemade Pizza on Gameday!

20 Sunday Nov 2011

It must be gameday, because we had a special pizza! Plus BSU won, 52 – 35 over San Diego State.
Our own made fresh sour dough crust (from scratch), onion, Italian sausage, German brats, black olives, mozzarella cheese,  fresh, from our garden, chopped red, yellow and green Zebra tomatoes, herbs and spices and mixed cheeses.

Add to this a great and aged Chimay Ale, some Blue and Orange M & M’s and we’ve got a party! Hope next week is as good with the Broncos. Hope so!

Yes It Was Robin’s Day!

And that it was at Flying Pizza Pizzaria on State Street in Boise. Margaret and Robin standing below the Flying Pie Pizzaria sign that announces her day! Even though it was rainning, 0.19″ per hour, it was a great party and we thank Flying Pie Pizzaria for the opportunity to make Robin’s Special Pizza. But here, look at the photos and see the fun all of us had. And when you are in Boise, stop in at Flying Pie Pizzaria for a pizza, salad and fantastic beer!

Here is Robin – my Robin – getting her instructions on what is going to happen.

But then there was more than one Robin who arrived for “Their Day“. Actually, there were four Robins that showed up. How great!!

Then there is always the prep work to making any dinner or pizza or whatever.

Fondle the pizza dough!

Throw the pizza to get the most stretch in the dough.

Putting the goodies on the pizza!

Marine and Robin. Robin’s pizza is in the center.

Jalapeno pizza!

Marnie, Robin and Maddy!

Margaret, Chris’ friend Nate, Chris, Marnie, Robin and Maddy.

Marnie and Mac.

Bob and Margaret

Robin, Bob and O Holy Night brew!

The Nectar of the Gods!

Yes it was an exciting afternoon. Great family, great friends, great beer and great pizza! Thank-You all!

A visit to Pizzalchik, Boise

17 Tuesday Nov 2009

To say that today was a big waste of time, would not be true! So I won’t say it. Robin and I had the very distinct pleasure of meeting and having lunch with Michael Boss of Behind The Menu at Pizzalchik on Gary Lane in Boise. Some really unique pizzas and salads. Try a Tequila and Lime Roasted Prawn Salad with Asian Noodles or one of the fantastic House Salads with a Balsamic Dressing! Or a Neapolitan Pizza – thin crust, tomato and cheese. Or Build Your Own – ground beef, garlic, sun dried tomatoes, red onion and basil. And then there is always wine to go with the meals or beer or Cokes. Here are some slides.

Want something different along the lines of a pizza? Try the Pizzalchik. It’s well worth the trip. And try one of their salads while you’re there. Cheers!

"Quiet on the set, please"! "QUIET!"

14 Friday Aug 2009

Yea! Right! Good luck! “No pictures, please”! Yea! Right! Good luck! On 14 August 2009 at the Flying Pie Pizzeria here in Boise, they held a filming for an upcoming episode on the Travel TV channel. There were close to 100+ people there and it was elbow-to-elbow crowded, noisy and exciting. The pizza was still great, although – and understanding the “feeding frenzy” that was going on – the service was sloooooow. Here are some photos. I changed the background music to portray a more soothing tone, than the busy, hurry up “rhythm” of the pizzeria this afternoon. Enjoy and don’t forget to view these in full screen mode. You will have the opportunity to select Full Screen.
