Boise, boise area, Boise Restaurant Guide, boise restaurants, Food Trucks, restaurant listings

BobAndRobin_Nov2009_1_Pizzalchik_PhotoI am starting a new page on this blog called Boise Restaurant Guide – see the header. This page will include restaurants in Boise and the close surrounding area that we have tried. This will not be a rating page, but, out of a 5-Star rating system, these restaurants are at least a 3-Star eatery. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 3-Star restaurant! Here is a link to the Boise Restaurant Guide. It is meant to inform you of the extremely varied cuisines available in Boise – Food Trucks, Italian, Pizza, Greek, Basque, Baltic, Persian, Asian, Mediterrean, Drive-Ins, Bistros, Brewpubs, Indian, Pakistani and many more.
I love it when people ask us, “Where is a good place to eat in Boise?” My stock answer is, “What do you like?” Boise is that varied for eating. So hopefully, this page will direct people to different restaurants and they will be able to at least find something they like. I might even include Carl’s Jr., McDonald’s, or Jacks. They are all available.
If you have a BNB in Boise, or know of someone that does, this list just might help our Visitors locate a good meal after traveling. Cheers!

Asian - Thailand Express, Chef Pong, Thailand, Thailand Express

17Jan2015_1_Thailand-Express_SignLocated at 2025 12th Ave Nampa, Idaho 83686. This was a very good surprise! Super food. Great Waite Staff. Ambiance was OK – open and more like a country cafe, not formal like Mai Thai in Boise. From their website, “Looking for mouthwatering Thai restaurants in Nampa, ID? Call Thailand Express at (208) 501-7975 and ask all about our menu that is chock-full of delicious Thai Food. Our chef has years of experience working in top tier restaurants and provides some of the best Asian food in the area. Whether you are looking for quick and easy lunch specials to share with coworkers or something a little fancier for dinner, you will find it here. We have both spicy and mild dishes for the whole family.” Here is a link to Thailand Express.
We found their food to be deliciously intriguing. Not spicy hot, unless you want it that way. Very large servings – Robin and I could have shared a bowl of the soup – no telling how large the pot size of soup was. Probably good for a family. Presentations were good. Prices were good for the quality and serving sizes. Watch their opening times as they are open twice daily, with a break in the afternoon when they are not open. “NEW BUSINESS HOURS – LUNCH —Tuesday-Friday–11:00a.m.2:30p.m., Saturday-Sunday–12:00p.m.-3:00p.m., Dinner –Tuesday-Thursday 4:30p.m.-9:00p.m., Friday-Saturday 4:30p.m.-9:30p.m., Sunday 4:30pm – 9:00pm. Monday Closed”
We rate this 4-Stars out of 5-Stars – on their FB site and their website they have a rating of 4 1/2-Stars. We will return to Thailand Express by Chef Pong. Enjoy these photos of the evening. Left-Click any of the photos to see enlarged.

Glad I tried this Thailand beer. Light and a refreshing lager that was a perfect match to the food. After a language lesson, it is pronounced "sing-ha" with a slight inflection on the "sing". Our Wait Person was delighted that we asked how to pronounce this. She was very helpful throughout the meal. Thank-You!

New Restaurant Visited: Blaze Pizza

Acme Bake Shop, Blaze pizza, speciality pizza

BobAndRobin_Nov2009_1_Pizzalchik_PhotoOne joy of writing and publishing these ideas, is that we get asked to go to new restaurants and and report on their fare. So today, since it is not snowing or raining but rather 61 degrees, we went to the Acme Bake Shop physical bakery – we have never been there – to pick up our Thanksgiving bread order. Then we went to a new pizza restaurant in Meridian, Idaho, Blaze Pizza. They are located at 2206 N. Eagle Rd., Meridian, ID 83646 (208) 855-9139. You can order online! Here are some photos of our visits. Enjoy!

Acme-Bake-Shop_Mar2014Like I said above, we started off by visiting Acme Bake Shop in 221 W 37th Street, Suite B, Garden City, Idaho. (208) 284-5580. And we are still convinced that this is the best bread in the Boise area. That’s a bold statement but one we stand by. Their breads are baked daily and from local products. Their Rye is the old world style, full of caraway and not a swirl rye, which is a rye “wanna be”. Look at these photos of the bakery and of some of the breads we bought today. Enjoy!!

26Nov2014_2_Foodie-Guild-RestVisits_Blaze-Pizza_SignNow off to Blaze Pizza, located at 2206 N Eagle Road, Meridian, Idaho. (208) 855-9139. A good selection of 11″ pizzas, from a Build Your Own to their Signature Pizzas. Here is a link to Blaze Pizza Menu. (You can download the menu, too.) See these photos of this new Meridian area restaurant. If you are in the area shopping, this makes for a great break. Stop in and have a speciality pizza and a cool drink.

Some of the dining area with the pizza making area in the background. My one critisism of the dining area is that it is very "noisey". The sounds echo off of flat, hard surfaces which amplifies the sounds. They need some sound buffers.

The hot oven works fine and gives the pizza crust a unique, fire-roasted flavor. I like that, especially on a thin crust. The Baker must be aware that this process can cause the crust to go to "cracker" consistency.

Our pizza, a Signature Meat Lovers. The lady constructing this pizza asked if I wanted some herbs - oregano. I said yes and she put about a pinch on this 11" pizza. Also, I count 12 pieces of onion - there could really be more. And some garlic. There could also be more pepperoni and more sausage. I'm not saying cups more, but a small handful more. No space between the pepperoni.

The Bottom Line: Great service people. Friendly, helpful and cheerful. Great to see. They seem to like their work. Very noisy environment – noises echo. Increase the amount of toppings, slightly. Cost of the product is good. Robin and I come from 20 miles south of South Philly! The Italian section. We grew up on pizza, subs, steak sandwiches and Bob Horn’s Bandstand. Our benchmark pizzas are Angie’s, Newark, DE. (No longer in existence.), Grotto Pizza, Rehoboth Beach, DE and Pittsburg, PA. PizzalChik, Boise, ID and Flying Pie Pizza in Boise. Blaze Pizza has big shoes to fill – a great challenge.

If you are in the Meridian area shopping, this will make a great stop. Out of 5-Stars, we rate Blaze Pizza 3-Stars for the reasons stated. We will return at some point in time. 3-Stars is not a bad rating, but we can see where they could use some improvement. Go and enjoy the pizza and be sure to let us know what you think. Cheers!

28Sept2014_1_The-Modern-Brunch_SignYes, it was a good brunch. Different. And we rate this a 3 1/2 to 4 Stars out of 5-Stars. But we will have to go back for their dinner menu to make sure of the rating. This was our first time. They made a good impression on us. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and loved to talk to all of their clients. They like their work and it shows. Here is a link to The Modern Hotel where you can view their menus, make room and restaurant reservations and get on their mailing list. An interesting point: They really do try to use local products as much as possible.

The Modern Hotel & Bar thanks Peaceful Belly, Homestead Natural Foods, Waterwheel Gar- dens, Purple Sage Farms, Next Generation Organics, Sweet Valley Organics, Gaston’s Bakery,
Idaho’s Bounty, Lava Lake Lamb, Malheur River Meats, Life Spring Farms, Cloverleaf Cream- ery, Meadowlark Farm, M & N Cattle Co., Acme Bakeshop and Miss Mona’s Chicken Ranch for
their local products

If you are in the area or are visiting Boise, please visit their website. Here are some photos of our visit. Enjoy!

Lomo is the Spanish word for tenderloin. Pork tenderloin is known as lomo de cerdo, whereas beef tenderloin is just called lomo. A specific type of lomo is lomo embuchado, which is a dry-cured meat made from a pork tenderloin. [This is what we had and pictured here] It is similar to cecina, but with pork instead of beef. An Italian version exists called lonza stagionata. [Wikipedia]

Flatbread Neapolitan Pizzeria, Reel Foods Oyster Bar

03Sept2014_1_Wine-MeetUp_Flatbread_SignOn Wednesday, we joined the Wine Meet-Up group for a gathering at Flatbread Neapolitan Pizzeria in Boise at 800 W. Main, Suite 230, Boise, ID 83702 and their phone is (208) 287-4757. Not bad, overall, but their food, at least two of them that we had, were very spicy and Robin could not finish all of hers. It might be a good idea if the Wait Person would explain that some menu items are spicy. Our Waiter, Dallas, was very good, except he did not tell us of the spiciness. Their menu and bar offerings are readily available at Boise Menu. Here are some photos from our visit. I do hope that you enjoy it when you go there. Ambiance is really very good and children are welcome, they even have a childs plate of pasta, which Robin got. And they do advertise that their products are purchased locally as much as possible. I can not, however, give them more than 3-Stars out of 5-Stars because of the spiciness of the foods. Enjoy these photos. Cheers!

28Apr2013_1_Wild-West-Bakery_SignWe went to the Wild West Bakery and Espresso in Eagle today for brunch. And as Robin says, “Today, April 28, we met Marnie and Mac at the Wild West Bakery and Espresso shop in Eagle – just 10 miles west of Boise – for brunch – When Bob worked with ‘The Sprinkler Guy’ – his boss Bob Scrivner and Donna Scrivner almost always sent home a bunch of baked treats made by Donna as she ‘manned’ the office at home – making appointments and communicating with the guys out in the field who were installing and fixing sprinklers. She found her dream job as a baker for Wild West and still loves it – and she sent us home with a box of assorted goodies she baked.” A scrumptious home cooked brunch and pastries! Yum. Look at these photos and decide for yourselves. Personally, we’d go back for brunch and may have to try their regular menu. This is easily a 4-Star restaurant for home style cooking. Enjoy these photos – Left Click to see an enlarged view – and please VOTE above. Thanks.

This was really a good brunch. You really should try it. But go early as it fills up quickly. The patio is open now and a welcome relief to eat outside. Check the link above for menus and times that they are open. Cheers and I hope you enjoy the Wild West Bakery and Espresso!
