"Foggy Vineyard"

“Foggy Vineyard“

I do not generally add articles to this blog that concerns a winery – there are specific blogs for that, i.e. AVA Happenings in Idaho or Treasure Valley Wine Society or the Treasure Valley Food and Wine Blog. But this was a special visit to the Parma Ridge Winery and Restaurant. A 5-Star winery and restaurant, and well worth this post. And it won’t break the bank. You will have an outstanding meal, whether it is a Friday night Happy Hour visit, a Saturday evening dinner or a Sunday Brunch. And the kids are welcome also! The weather was foggy and slightly wet. The roads were wet, but not icy, until you drove on the “back” roads.
Here is what we had. Go to the winery. Eat there. And say “Hi” to Stephanie, that’s her artwork and to Chef Storm, who comes up with the fantastic epicurean treats. You won’t be sorry you went. Some of these treats are new to the menu. The servings are very adequate and border on being large. Four of us shared the following dishes. We also had some awesome wines to go with the brunch.

Daughter Marnie, cousin Dorothy from Portland and an awesome wife, Robin.

And as we were leaving, I told Chef Storm that tomorrow night (Monday) I am making a 5 Hour Roasted Duck.

I will probably also serve a 5 Hour Duck Sauce to go with it.
Chef Storm said he has never had a 5 hour roasted duck. And he asked me to
post photos – I will – and save him some. That may be more difficult as there are 4 of us eating it. I may have to make him one. That’ll be fun! Hmmmm!

28Nov2015_1_Snake-River-AVA-Visit_Parma-Ridge-EntranceThis is such a treat – even driving all the way from Boise to Parma! Superb food by Chef Storm. And wonderful artwork on the walls by Artist Stephanie. Such talents and such nice people. The food is delicious and servings are quite adequate, even to the point of being large. The Storm’s Deluxe Burger is superb and almost worth the drive just for the burger! The House Salad is exceptional with those pears! We started here for a good and substantial meal before our sojourn through the Snake River AVA and 5 wineries on Black Saturday. I want to say that Parma Ridge is probably the first winery in the Snake River AVA that has open seating brunch. Bitner Vineyards has, at times, cheese plates and other meals. Great to see the bistro type winery restaurant. Parma Ridge Bistro – that’s my name, not theirs – is every bit a 5-Star establishment. Just look at what we had.

Part of the Snake River AVA from Parma Ridge Winery tasting room. Beautiful!

The Clam Chowder is superb, although a little salty. I'd still get it again.

The Creamy Northwest Clam Chowder is superb, although a little salty. I’d still get it again. Many clams and good broth.

Parma Ridge Burger. I'd drive all the way from Boise for one of these! Probably the Best Burger around! Aoli Fries and Black Truffle Oil Dipping Sauce.

Storm’s Deluxe Burger. I’d drive all the way from Boise for one of these! (Yes, it is that good!) Probably the Best Burger around! Rosemary Truffle Fries with Mesquite Aloli Dipping Sauce. A house specialty. Gotta be!

This soup, or chowder, Coconut Shrimp Soup really makes an awesome dinner. Rich and smooth with a slight hint of spice. If you like it hotter, just add more cayenne or paprika. I have also placed a link to the recipe in the recipe file above. Enjoy!

Statehouse Oyster Chowder on a Cold Day

I thought this Statehouse Oyster Chowder was pretty good. Robin is not an oyster fanatic. I’m not a “fanatic”, but I do like them ever so often. Tonight, at 30 degrees and the inversion setting up, it tasted good and it was a treat to a cold body. If you would like the recipe, it is linked above. Thanks to my sister Peggy for sharing this.
03Jan2014_1_Captains-Shack_Oyster-Chowder_Plated Serve this with either a 2012 Ste Chapelle Special Harvest Riesling – Idaho Snake River AVA – or a 2012 Joseph Swan Vineyards Gewurztraminer, preferred, and you will have an awesome dinner on a cold, winter’s night. Enjoy the chowder. We did! Cheers. (Wonder if my Dad would have put Sherry in it. Hmmmm.)

Drink Bar and Waterfront Grill, Idaho humanists

25Nov2013_2_Humanist-MeetUp_Drink_Sign_LogoThe Boise Humanist group met at Drink Bar and Waterfront Grill on November 25. The restaurant is a nice setting right on the lake. But just a little cold on the Cabana when the temperature is in the high 20’s, even if the sides are shielded by plastic. They probably could have turned the heaters on an hour or so earlier so that the room would warm up a little more. People were cold. Here is their Cabana/Tiki Bar Page and menus.

The food was OK, but not much more. The clam chowder was tasty as was the lobster bisque. It would have been nice to have fries or something come with the burgers. They could probably do with better hamburger buns, too. These were “gummy”. I will rate this as a 3-Star ( out of 5-Stars) restaurant based on what we had. Here are some photos from the evening. Left-Click any of the photos to see enlarged. Cheers!

08Mar2013_1a_Fish-And-Shellfish-Chowder_BestHere is one very awesome seafood chowder. And if you are familiar with Tom’s Cove Clam Chowder, the very best ever from the Ocean City, New Jersey area, then you may know what this chowder is like. This chowder, is smooth and creamy with an awesome goût de la mer, taste of the sea. Absolutely, without a doubt, worth the time that it takes to make this. With the prep and everything, count on about 1 1/2 hours. Click the link for Fish and Shellfish Chowder and enjoy a great meal. Here in Boise, we got our fresh seafood from our favorite fish store, Reel Foods, now on Capital Blvd across from the City Library. Enjoy this meal in a bowl!
