06 Mar2015_1_Orchard-House_SignWhat a great time last night at The Orchard House for dinner and Williamson Vineyard and Orchards serving their wines. The Orchard House is a favorite of ours when we are in the Snake River wine area. And Williamson Vineyards have some fantastic wines and their fruit in season is awesome! We highly recommend these two businesses. Here are some photos from the evening. Truly a Homestyle meal! Enjoy.

I know. No one makes a Meatloaf like your Mother. And you can not find a good meatloaf when traveling. Until now. Outside of my kitchen, and my Mother's kitchen, this has got to be the best anywhere. And if you are here for lunch, try the Meatloaf Sandwich!

What else can I say? The meal was a Plus 4-Star dinner (out of 5-Stars) and the wines went extremely well with the dinner. If you are in the area, stop in at both places. You may need reservations at The Orchard House – they get very busy for dinner. And try their breakfast or lunch. And don’t forget the appropriate wine with dinner. Say Hi to Kris for us! Cheers!

Hat-Ranch-Winery-LogoClear blue skies! Light, cooling breezes! 88 degree temperatures. Only thing missing is a tempting ocean breeze. We spent the day both at Hat Ranch Winery off of Plum Road in Marsing (their postal address is in Caldwell) and the Snake River AVA and then to a wonderful dinner at The Orchard House. Hat Ranch was releasing their Tempranillo, which is very good. The Orchard House has good meatloaf.
Hat Ranch Winery bought Vale Wine Co., as some of you might already know. Some of the Vale wines were there for us to try also. Their Chardonnay is really a good one and will pare well with foods that need a citru match. Not an oaky chardonnay. The appetizers that they had to accompany the wines, see the photo of the menu board below, were a perfect match. Enjoy these photos and if you are in the area, stop in at both Hat Ranch Winery and The Orchard House. You won’t be disappointed. Cheers!

Orchard_House_Logo_2And then, we went to The Orchard House for dinner. Goodbye diet for today! We always enjoy the meals here. If I were to choose which meal I would constantly get here, it would definitely be the breakfast. It is just so satisfying. But today, we had a good Meatloaf dinner and an Idaho Trout dinner. This is one place that you can get a good meatloaf away from your own kitchen. The Orchard House is located at 14949 Sunnyslope Road, Caldwell (just outside of Marsing) in the Snake River AVA.

We had to check this bottle of wine out. It really is named for the Weiser Old Tyme Fiddlers Festival, which is just over for the year.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to the Orchard House in Marsing, ID. and I had what they call the B o B – Best of Both. Eggs Benedict with Ham and Eggs Benedict with Spinach and Salmon. I used fresh spinach, sesame bagel and lox. I think the breakfast was awesome. The recipe for the extremely easy Hollandaise Sauce is in the recipe file above, Easy Blender Hollandaise Sauce. Look at this –

Thank-You Kris Thompson, Owner of The Orchard House for the inspiration to make this. And Thank-You Russ Terrell for the awesomely easy Hollandaise sauce recipe and technique.

Meatloaf and Sea Food

27Feb2013_1b_Orchard-House-MugsActually, the Meatloaf and Seafood were two different meals. Let’s start with the Meatloaf. Either you like it or you don’t! I like it. I like a good meatloaf. And Robin does, too. So, outside of your kitchen, or my kitchen, it is, as Winemaker Joe Swann, Swan Vineyards, Forestville, CA, would say, “You can’t get a good meatloaf at a restaurant.” Well …. I will say it is very difficult to find one, but not impossible. Tommy’s Meatloaf, at the Buzz here in Boise, is one place, out of all the restaurants in Boise, to get a good meatloaf. It is awesome!! There is, though, another place that is near Boise, actually at Sunny Slope in Marsing, to get a super meatloaf. At the Orchard House! Both the Buzz and the Orchard House make theirs from scratch. No frozen, make believe meatloaf. Just fresh and usually local ingredients. And when you go, let them know you saw this article on this blog!

And then, for an evening dinner, we went to the Bonefish Grille for seafood. A good dinner. Look at these.

Bang Bang Shrimp

Trout with Twice Steamed Green Beans and Garbanzo Beans.

To sum the day up – A Yum Day!! And of course while we were at Sunny Slope, we had to stop in at Fujishin Family Cellars and get six bottles of their Merlot, six bottles of their Cabernet Sauvignon and a case of their Viognier. The merlot, a 2009 vintage, is awesome. Cheers!!

Christmas Eats

11 Sunday Dec 2011

Posted by Bob and Robin in Celebrations, Christmas, Party Time, Photos, Photos By: Bob Young, The Orchard House, What's For Dinner?

After a great little neighborhood party, we had to go eat. So we returned to The Orchard House in Sunnyslope. Here Robin talks to Santa. Does he believe her?
She has been good ! Robin made Lebkuchen, a very German Christmas treat. Yummy and spicy! Here are some photos.

Robin put this design on the Lebkuchen she is making. Pretty!

Ready for the oven.

Ready to be eaten[after it ages for two weeks].

And then, off to the Orchard House for another delightful dinner. This one was beef.

It was a cold night, but a great fire in the fire ring kept everyone happy and warm. Here are some photos of the dinner we had and the Christmas lights. Enjoy!

Appetizer Trio Plate – You pick three!
Calimari
Stuffed Mushrooms
Fried Onions

Rib-Eye For Two
(Real) Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans

Pecan Pie
House Coffee

Robison Fruit Ranch Christmas Party.

Theresa’s daughter Lena Nicole, Theresa Moye and Mr. Robison

And then there were all of these lights in the area around The Orchard House. Great for the Holiday Spirit. It’s worth the trip just to see all of the lights. Get a pair of the special glasses to “see” the snowmen in the lights. Awesome!

There is a moving inflatable Hippo in the foreground, with the little boy singing “All I want for Christmas is a Hippopotamus”.

Clyde, the Idaho Camel [and his trainer] was there, too!

Folks gathered around the fire ring to sing carols and keep warm.

Technology has caught up with Santa. The Reindeer are out in the pasture and Santa flew into the Orchard House parking lot arriving via helicopter!
We had a most enjoyable and festive time.

The Orchard House, Caldwell, ID

07 Wednesday Dec 2011

Yesterday, I said to Robin that sometime I would like to The Orchard House at Sunny Slope in the Snake River AVA wine district. She suggested breakfast and then proceeded to look at the menu on line. (Use the link provided above.) And while you are on the page, sign up for their newsletter for specials and coming events. Oh my! What a treat. We will definitely return for a Saturday night dinner. I promise! Out of 5 stars, right now it is a 4-Star restaurant. The food that we had, see below, was awesome. Check out their menu at the link above. The Hot Criterion Apple Juice is super! They use local products as much as possible in season. They carry only Idaho wines!
We did like the “rustic”, and very Western, knotty pine walls and grand open space in the dinning area. The hammered tin ceiling is wonderful. I can really see the dining area filling up quickly and a full house. You might want to call ahead if you are planning a Friday night or Saturday visit. And definitely call ahead if you have a large party. The number to call is (208) 459-8200. You can also contact them via E-Mail. I will keep their business card in the sidebar.
We certainly did enjoy ourselves, the food and the hospitality. In the meantime, enjoy these photos.

Restaurant waiting area.

Main dining area. Here Robin and Owner Kris Thompson are in deep conversation. I always like it when the owner of a restaurant carries on a conversation with their clients. It makes one feel welcome.

Our breakfast and it is a HUGE one!
