This was a really great dinner. The salmon was scrumptious and easy to do. It just took a little time. For the recipe, Click Here or look on the recipe page above. Either way will get you the information. Enjoy it for as I said, it is really good. To the left is the salmon ready for the oven.
Here the dish is plated.

Who could ask for more? Actually we asked for more. We watched the movie, I Like Killing Flies. A strange documentary movie, but interesting. Here is a synopsis of the movie. If you can, get a copy and watch it.

A quirky documentary about Shopsin’s, a hole-in-the-wall Greenwich Village restaurant that’s been dutifully serving comfort food to satisfied customers for more than 30 years. Lording over the eatery is hilarious, ersatz philosopher/owner Kenny Shopsin. He is just as likely to throw his customers out as he is to take their orders. If you come in with 5 in your party, you will not be served and told to leave. This is a hilarious documentary and well worth watching. We got a copy on Netflix. Rated R (for language) and 1 hour, 19 minutes long.

Sunday, Oct 21, found us at another fantastic Quarterly Wine Dinner at the Buzz in Boise.Great event and great food and wines. Look at what we had and sorry if you missed this. Be sure to Left-Click for a larger view of the photos.  And as a matter of record, Christi will not tell you the cost of these wines before the end of the evening. She wants you, and rightly so, to judge the wine on its attributes and not on  the cost of the wine. Cheers!

So there you have our great dinner and adventure at the Buzz. An awesome dinner as usual with some really excellent wines. If you missed this one, maybe we’ll see you at the next Quarterly Dinner or maybe at the monthly Wine Dinner. Cheers!

And then on Monday morning – Meatless Monday Morning – we went to Le Café de Paris to meet a friend of us from Homedale, Gina. There we had breakfast. Some great toast and jam, but no pastries! That’s almost a Cardinal Sin. Almost. Gina bought several and took them back to Homedale with her. But here is what we had for breakfast and it was good. Enjoy!

Robin had this really delicious looking
Fried Egg Croissant
Fresh Fruit Bowl

I had an excellent
Omelet
asparagus, Gruyère cheese, mushrooms
Fried Potatoes with Green Onion

So, as you can see, we ate our way through the weekend. Oh. I didn’t tell you? For the homecoming game at BSU (they beat UNLV, 32-7) we had a great meatloaf. See Comfort Food at Halftime on this blog. Super weekend. It’s salad tonight. Cheers!

I know where Waldo is. But, Where Is Mundo, Idaho?

Actually, Mundo, Idaho is just a little north of Cambridge, Idaho. About 102 miles north of Boise along the Weiser River. A beautiful drive. I had to break-in the brakes and new tires on the motorhome and to see how Buddy reacted to is collapsible, soft kennel. It has a screen type window all around and it is plenty large for him. We put his pillow in it and placed the kennel on the bed in the back, where he could see out 3 windows. I’m not saying that he liked it, but he was calm. Brakes and tires are great!
Mundo – Idaho RV park. Small, but very comfortable. And John and Becky Nolan are very friendly and pleasant. They just opened a Bistro on site and their daughter runs that. Very good food, as you can see below. Fresh, homemade platters. Very tasty. They also have a hot pool that is kept about 102 degrees year around. We will return! In the meantime, here are the platters we had. Enjoy! We did. Don’t forget to Left-Click the photos for a full screen view. You can see their website by Clicking Here.

Pita BLT
Gumbo
Root Beer

I had the sandwich and the bowl of gumbo. Robin just had the gumbo. I thought it was really good. Spicy, but not overwhelming. Great to have the fresh vegies in it, too.

Huckleberry Puff Pastry and Cream Cheese
We shared this. It was delicious!

Comfort Food

It turned into Fall. So did the temperatures – 61 degrees F right now and a light rain. Very light. All four drops! But what good weather for a Pot Roast. And what good timing for us to purchase a Crockpot. It’s been a while. I put the roast in at midnight and we ate at noon. Here is the Pot Roast still in the cooker about ready to be put on the table. Add a good glass of 2008 Stumbling Block Red Oregon Table Wine and we have a good dinner. Enjoy the photos.

Our plated dinner!

Two awesome meals this weekend. This one is one Robin made in the motor home’s microwave while we were at the Snake River RV Resort in Homedale, Idaho.

Fresh Made Popovers filled with Fresh Egg Salad

This was simply delicious!

And then tonight we had

Grilled Pork Ribs
Chinese Black Rice
Fresh Made Sweet and Sour Sauce

This was another great meal. I have never had Chinese Black Rice, but it is delicious! Fruity. Maybe a little sweet. Great with the pork. We had grilled three racks of these ribs and they were all super. Cheers!

The Buzz presented another in a great series of Wine Club Wine Dinners! A different selection of foods this time. Very adventuresome and good. Cristi and Tom did their usual great job in the kitchen. And Austin and Bailey did super in serving. Thanks too, to Paul Colwell, BRJ Distributors, for working with Cristi in selecting the wines. My score are based on the [20] point scale. Here are the wines and the food parings that w had. Hope to see you there next month. Maybe a surprise menu. At any rate, you can’t beat the $15.00 per person price for a five course meal and 6-8 wines. Call the Buzz for reservations. Cheers and enjoy!

Paul Colwell, BRJ Distributors, describes some of the wines.

Food Truck Rally Boise for May 2012

12 Saturday May 2012

A super Food Truck Rally in Boise tonight. And the weather cooperated. Warm and clear with just a light breeze. I did not count the people there but there wa a good sized crowd.
The photo to the left is Peach Cobler (wonderful!) at Brown Shuga Soul Food. They do sponsor me to take photos of their food truck. You can get a general  idea of the event from the photos that follow. Enjoy and if you missed this one, look for the next rally on the 2nd Friday of June. It is well worth the trip and the food is really diverse and wonderful.

Brown Shuga Soul Food truck. Look for them here and on Chinden Blvd in Garden City Tuesday through Saturday during the week.

Ah yes. BBQ Turkey Legs from Brown Shuga.

Some of the crew at Brown Shuga. Yvonne is in the black Chef’s coat. It takes a good crew to serve all of the people.

Yvonne helps a hungry customer.

Customer service is the name of the game and Yvonne does it very well.

BBQ Chicken and Mac and Cheese from Brown Shuga. This chicken was delicious. I like it better than the turkey legs. That surprised Yvonne. The wine is from the Indian Creek Winery and was a viognier. It went very well with the BBQ.

An Oyster Club Sandwich from Brick 29 and a glass of Payette Brewery IPA. Wow! This was a great combination! I’ll do this again with Brown Shuga’s BBQ Chicken. I told Sheila from Payette Brewery that I want to do a blind tasting of their IPA, Dechutes Brewery Inversion and 10 Barrel Apocalypse IPA. That would be a fun evening.

Almost needed shaved ice tonight. Definitely will in June.

Mike and Tammy McClure of Indian Creek Winery. I have no idea what Tammy is doing. Introduce yourself to them. They are great people and make a super wine.

Another one of the food trucks.

Well, that’s it for this month. If I didn’t see you there tonight, maybe next month. Cheers!

The Buzz – Monthly Wine Dinner

09 Wednesday May 2012

Posted by Bob and Robin in Food, Main Dish, Photos, Photos By: Bob Young, What's For Dinner?

I just loved this evening sunset sky in Boise as I was leaving the Buzz after a wonderful Monthly Wine Club Dinner – Magazines. Cristi did a great job in explaining to everyone the magazines that are available about wines and also on the rating systems.
She did a blind tasting tonight, a change from her normal format. I liked it. Here is the dinner we had and the wines that Cristi paired with the food. Remember: The scoring is based on 100 points. Enjoy! And the dinner that accompanied the tasting was perfectly matched with the wines and well prepared. We just keep coming back to the Buzz. Here is more information – BUZZ Coffee & Wine Bar on Urbanspoon

Opening Wines
These two wines, from South Africa, were really very good. Of the two, I preferred the Chenin Blanc, but the Cab was still good. Using the 100 point scoring, I rated both of these at 92.

Appetizer
Asparagus Pesto Brochette

2009 Pinot Grigio
13.0% alc, crisp and clear, lemon [92]

Soup
Wild Mushroom Ragout
(An awesome soup!)

2008 Red Blend
14.1% alc., deep red, big and bold. Great with the soup [95]

Roasted Vegetable Salad
(Super good salad!)

2008 Pillar Box Red Blend (Australia)
14.5% alc., cinnamon, roast beef. well balanced [97]

Lemon Herb Chicken
Brown Rice Mixture
Broccoli
Cucumber Yogurt Sauce

2010 White Knight Viognier
13.9% alc., light color almost white, good with the cucumber and broccoli and the herbs on the chicken [95]

Pear/Pecan Flop Cake

2008 Dugagutti
13.9% alc., red and tan, chocolate and plum. great with the cake [98]

Joe’s Road House Port
deep chocolate color. wonderfully smooth
(Thanks Joe for sharing!)
