This is what I like about this time of year and the Boise Farmers Market. The chives in the eggs came from our garden. Truly an all Idaho breakfast. Most of these items are available at the Boise Farmers Market, every Saturday at 10th and Grove from 9am – 1pm. Take a look.

I made Robin an Egg In Toast – make a hole in bread, grill it, add an egg, serve it – and noticed that there was some asparagus that had to be eaten and some mushrooms. So, for me, I made this omelet that was terrific. Left-Click to see the photo enlarged. Cheers!

The other evening when we were at a Ridge Winery tasting, they suggested to go with their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon to have a Ridge Winery Lamb Meatloaf. We did not have any of the cab, but we do have some 2003 Ridge Winery Lytton East Zinfandel and it is an awesome wine! We still have 5 bottles in our storage. We made the meatloaf and it too is awesome. Look at these photos I took of the dinner and the the Sunday morning breakfast consisting of a Shrimp and Fresh Asparagus Omelet. Yummers!

And then for breakfast Sunday morning, something simple and easy and non-complicated. A change of pace!

And just as a note: The lamb is from the Felzien Family Farm where we get all of our fresh lamb. The eggs are from Meadowlark Farms, where we get all of our eggs. The asparagus and garlic are from the River View Gardens. The sourdough bread is from our favorite bakery Acme Bake Shop. The carrots were from Rice Family Farms. We really do try to keep our food supply local and we do Buy Idaho! Cheers.

Acme Bake Shop, Boise Farmers Market, Gaston Bakery, Meadowlark Farms, Purple Sage Farms, Think Local - Buy Local

05April2014_1_Boise-Farmers-Market_BoothsSeems like it has been months since we could shop for local products at the farmers market. It has! It’s been since last December when they closed for the winter. But now it’s Spring and the market is Open! Yea! It was great to see the vendors there from last year and their fantastic Idaho products. Acme Bake Shop (fresh Rye and Sourdough), Gaston Bakery (Croissants), Meadowlark Farms (fresh Eggs), Purple Sage Farms (awesome greens), Idaho Honey, Homestead Farms (bone-in Rib-Eye steaks), Rollingstone Chevre and a host of others that I know I am missing. Here are some photos from this morning. I have been asked by many people when Acme Bake Shop will open a store front. I got the answer this morning, “It’s not in the business plan at this time.” Beside the Boise COOP, I will check next week to see where in Boise you can purchase their bread. Cheers and hope to see YOU there next Saturday! And please, Think Local – Buy Local. Support your local farmer.

Cricket, dump cake

30Mar2014_1_Chris-Makes-Dinner_Chris-With-Ray-CricketBefore Chris made dinner for Marnie, Mac, Robin and myself, he was seen out in the yard playing ball with Ray, the Golden Retriever and Cricket, a German Short Hair. Both dogs like to play with each other, although Cricket is the oldest at about 12. Two delightful animals. With loving care like this, Cricket will do fine. But now for dinner. I knew Chris had a kitchen talent. He made the main course of Chicken Pasta and it was very good. I am sorry the Maddy and Sophia missed it. But Chris did make plate for Maddy. Enjoy these photos and Left-Click any of them to see enlarged. Cheers!

Oh my, but this was a great dinner. I asked Robin this morning what she wanted for dinner and to my surprise she said steak. I was looking for a New York Strip steak or a Delmonico but could not find either one. So I got to very nice Rib-Eye steaks. And this was a perfect chance to try Sandi’s Ranch Dressing on a green salad. It replaces the original Ranch Dressing. This one has avocado and Greek yogurt. Very good. But here are two photos of the dinner. Then add to the dinner a fantastic glass of 2011 Ravenswood Winery Petite Sirah and you have an awesome dinner. I will post the salad dressing recipe tomorrow – it is also on my Facebook page. [Sandi’s Ranch Dressing. PDF format] Gut essen!

Actually, pretty good meals today. Found out too, that BSU is a 2.5 point underdog in the Hawaii Bowl on December 24 (6:00pm Mountain Time on ESPN) when they play Oregon State. We’ll see! Anyway, here’s what we had for breakfast and then dinner. Enjoy! And, I just thought of this, here are the products for these two meals that were local: Eggs, spinach, sourdough bread, jam, bacon, chicken, potatoes and the wine for dinner was a 2010 Cold Springs L’attraction White Table Wine, a Gold Medal winner in the 2013 Idaho Wine Competition.
