5 hour roasted duck, Baked Sweet Potato, Creamed Spinach, Grand Marnier, Idaho wines

Tango-Corte-Window-FloridaOh yes once again! We do like the duck done this way. Made Creamed Spinach with Grand Marnier Cream and Baked Sweet Potato and Duck Gravy. Certainly was delicious! And then top that off with a super good 1985 Rose Creek Winery Cabernet Sauvignon. That is still a super wine. On a scale of 1-20, easily a 19.7. So close to the perfect 29 year old Cab. Enjoy these photos. Cheers!

A perfect wine! Great job Jamie Martin, winemaker, now at Cold Springs Winery in Hammett, Idaho

Boise Farmers Market, Boneless Leg of Lamb, brussels sprouts, heirloom carrots, lamb

1990 Chris_and_GrandmaYes, a full and complete Lamb Dinner with Chris. The occasion? I don’t know. Maybe “Just Because”. Here Oma Robin holds him the day after(?) he was born. Or is she still holding him after delivery? Anyway, a cute baby boy! And his birthday is just past. 24 years! So it makes this photo 24 years old! So on with the dinner. Enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed the dinner. Everything Chris – and us – like! Left-Click any of these photos to see them enlarged. Cheers! Oh! And Yes. Most of the ingredients of this meal were grown or raised locally. The lamb was a Felzien Farms lamb. Veggies from the Boise Farmers Market. Etc.

I boned the lamb and then rolled it with fresh oregano, fresh mint, salt and pepper and spinach. Then on the outside I dusted it lightly with Greek Spice. It was so yummy!

The dinner plated.

The dinner plated. We served this with a 2013 Honor Vera Garnacha. And believe it or not, it was just a little light with the Brussels sprouts. Other than that, it was a good match.

Skillet Apple Pie with Cinnamon Fresh Whipped Cream

This is so easy to make and so delicious. The only other thing, outside of the butter and brown sugar, to make this slightly better would be the addition of lattice designed bacon on top! Here is the recipe if you want it. Skillet Apple Pie recipe. (We added some fresh vanilla seeds to the mix too. Scrapped the bean to get the seeds.)

17Sept2014_1_Robins-71st-BDay_Chandlers-FrontWhen one reaches a given year, let’s say 60 or there abouts, one really should celebrate ones birthday over several days. And one should have plenty of food and wine! I do believe that Robin had just that this year!! Happy Birthday, Honey! Let’s start the celebration on Sunday, September 14 with a dinner that Marnie and Mac made. Thanks to Sophia and Chris, too, for helping with this event. Look what we had.

Mac's 2010 Mead!

Some pretty good IPA.

Then we had to rest for a while after eating all of this. This is the Birthday Rule: When it is your time to celebrate, YOU get to choose where you want to go for dinner. Any place in town. U-Pick-It! Robin chose Chandler’s Steak House this year. Good Choice. Look at this spread, and they knew it was her Birthday! Thank-You for a great dinner. The food, The Staff and the Wine were all super!

Are we proud? Yes you bet! Our Daughter Marnie and her husband Mac have turned their downtown home into a BNB. Well kind-of. Yes, you can expect everything that you get in a BNB, but not a prepared meal. You make your own meals in this BNB. The AIRBNB, and many more nationwide, have a new trend – You rent the entire home for a short period of time and you have all the conveniences of being at home. You can make your own meals. Do laundry. Have a quiet evening “at home”.
Enjoy beautiful Boise. Generally cheaper than a hotel, where you must purchase every meal. Check the link for more detailed information Marnie and Mac’s AirBNB. And after looking at the photos, make a reservation. The house has been completely remodeled inside and out. Completely fenced in yard. Enjoy!

Recently remodelled interior. (They jut got it done on June 14, 2014.

Close to downtown Boise; The Greenbelt where you can ride your bikes or just walk; Awesome restaurants or all cuisines. Boise Farmers Market for fresh local produce. Close to brew pubs and local breweries. Close to Idaho wineries.

SushiJoy_LogoI have yet to have anything bad here at Sushi Joy. It is still the finest Chinese/Japanese restaurant in Boise. Bar none! I by far prefer the Japanese cuisine over the Chinese and that is not because one is better than the other. It is just a preference. The Samurai Yellowtail, as listed on the first photo below, was awesome. A great ying-yang of sweet and biting flavors. The Yellowtail is somewhat sweet. The House Sauce was pleasingly biting. If I could give them a rating of more than 5-Stars, I certainly would. But just be assured, this restaurant is a solid, very solid, 5-Stars. Left-Click any of these photos to see them enlarged. Cheers!

This was really very good. Fun to make and easy. It is a modified version of a traditional puttanesca, but just as good, I think. I will post the recipe in the recipe file later today. But for now, here is the dish. Enjoy!! For dessert, Robin cut up some watermelon and mixed it with some blueberries. Then splashed on some Grand Marnier. It was yummy. There is none left over! Here is The Puttanesca Recipe. You can also find it in the Recipe File as listed above.

Cricket, dump cake

30Mar2014_1_Chris-Makes-Dinner_Chris-With-Ray-CricketBefore Chris made dinner for Marnie, Mac, Robin and myself, he was seen out in the yard playing ball with Ray, the Golden Retriever and Cricket, a German Short Hair. Both dogs like to play with each other, although Cricket is the oldest at about 12. Two delightful animals. With loving care like this, Cricket will do fine. But now for dinner. I knew Chris had a kitchen talent. He made the main course of Chicken Pasta and it was very good. I am sorry the Maddy and Sophia missed it. But Chris did make plate for Maddy. Enjoy these photos and Left-Click any of them to see enlarged. Cheers!
