Sunday, Oct 21, found us at another fantastic Quarterly Wine Dinner at the Buzz in Boise.Great event and great food and wines. Look at what we had and sorry if you missed this. Be sure to Left-Click for a larger view of the photos.  And as a matter of record, Christi will not tell you the cost of these wines before the end of the evening. She wants you, and rightly so, to judge the wine on its attributes and not on  the cost of the wine. Cheers!

So there you have our great dinner and adventure at the Buzz. An awesome dinner as usual with some really excellent wines. If you missed this one, maybe we’ll see you at the next Quarterly Dinner or maybe at the monthly Wine Dinner. Cheers!

And then on Monday morning – Meatless Monday Morning – we went to Le Café de Paris to meet a friend of us from Homedale, Gina. There we had breakfast. Some great toast and jam, but no pastries! That’s almost a Cardinal Sin. Almost. Gina bought several and took them back to Homedale with her. But here is what we had for breakfast and it was good. Enjoy!

Last week, Robin and I took a little sojourn to Mundo, Idaho to check the camping out. It was good. And the onsite Mundo Bistro, run by the daughter of the owner’s, was excellent! (It’s a family business.) Owner Becky Nolan was kind enough to chat with us for a while and the subject turned to bacon. She said that she really likes Daily’s Brand Bacon and uses it at the Bistro. Robin and I have always liked and used Falls Brand Bacon. I have finally decided that the brand and the thickness of the slices is a very personal “thing”. I found some Daily’s Bacon at the local Albertson’s. Here is a copy of an email I sent to Becky about Daily’s Bacon and Falls Brand Bacon.

I found Daily’s bacon at Albertson’s at 16th and State in Boise. A little, but not much, cheaper than Falls Brand, which is made in Twin Falls.
Daily’s is made in Missoula, MT and it is a division of Seaboard Foods. Daily’s (http://www.dailysmeats.com/) – Serving size – 2 slices. Sodium/serving – 500mg. Cholesterol/serving – 10mg.
Falls Brand
 is made in Twin Falls, ID (http://www.independentmeat.com/falls-brand/bacon/), a division of Independent Meats – Serving size – 1 slice. Sodium/serving – 190mg. Cholesterol/serving – 10mg
That is probably more than you ever wanted to know.

But I do believe it is in the taste and both Robin and I agree that the Falls Brand, is a little more “tasty” and has a little more “smokey” taste. Daily’s will probably be a good backup if Falls Brand is not available.

It is great to see that starting today, Yvonne and Brown Shuga Soul Food is expanding their menu to include breakfast. They are located at 24th and Fairview in Boise. Look for the food truck as pictured at the Boise Rescue Mission parking lot. Here is what is being served. Enjoy!

Architectural Cold Eggs Benedict Salad

I (Robin) made a creative breakfast today … An Architectural Cold Eggs Benedict Salad – artichoke bottoms on a slice of tomato over lettuce and spinach, filled with crab meat and a half hard-boiled quail egg topped with a sauce of leftover garlic aoli [essentially hollandaise – homemade mayonaise] with chopped tarragon to resemble Bearnaise sauce. (Photo to the left is the prep work. Love the spotted quail eggs! Photo below is the plated salad. YUM-O!) Bob took photos … they will be blogged later. (Here they are!)
Drinking fruit flavored water – fresh pineapple chunks and orange slices in water with mint leaves. No sweetener other than the fruit. I want to try the Raspberry / Lime, Watermelon/Rosemary and Blackberry/Sage waters too. Have had cucumber/lemon slices in water lots – very refreshing and natural. Can always use no-cal sparkling water instead of plain water. Of course we do keep Schweppes Tonic water on hand to mix with gin for keeping Malaria away!

Bacon and Egg Muffin Cups

Here is a recipe that you can make in about 20 minutes and feed a host – many – people. Really easy to do. I got the recipe from one of the many food/recipe blogs that I subscribe to. In this case, Secret Recipe Club. It’s free to join. Enjoy this breakfast! The first photo is when I took them out of the oven. The second, the cups are plated.

Source: Secret Recipe Club – 
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Yield: 8 Breakfast Cups

Note: These are so very easy to make and you can feed a crowd fairly easy. And yes, they are good!

Ingredients:
4 slices of bread
8 eggs
8 slices of bacon
shredded cheese

Bacon and Egg Muffin Cups plated

Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

Heat a skillet on medium-high heat, cook the bacon and only allow it to cook for about 4-5 minutes. You are looking for flexible but not raw. While the bacon is cooking, cut two circles out of each slice of bread. I used a circle cookie cutter to make it easier.
Now take that extra bread and either save it for french toast casserole or go tear it apart and feed it to the birds {what we did}.

Spray a muffin tin with cooking spray. Next, lay a circle of bread into the bottom of each muffin cup. Wrap the bacon around the edge of each muffin cup. (I did this part backwards – we did the cheese before the bacon – it made absolutely no difference) Sprinkle cheese on top of the bread slices.

Now carefully, crack an egg into each cup. Megan suggested cracking the egg carefully into a bowl first and then sliding it into the muffin cup. I just did it right into the pan.
Bake them for 10-15 minutes or until the whites have set and the yolk is cooked to your liking (less for a runny yolk, more for a cooked yolk)

Serve with pancakes and fresh fruit – well, we did. And by the way, you cannot eat just one. I don’t care what anyone says, you can’t. It’s impossible.

Usually on Sunday, I make breakfast. A very traditional breakfast. But this past Sunday, we had some peaches and Robin says she will make crepes. And that she did! A wonderful peach filling made with honey. It went extremely well with the crepes and bacon! Enjoy!

The Buzz New Breakfast Dishes

Robin and I went to the opening of the New Breakfast Menu at the Buzz, this morning. This was an extremely good breakfast and well worth the trip to the Buzz. Great coffee, too. When you go, say “HI” to Tommy and Cristie for use. Enjoy!
