This was a great alternative to fried or the basic baked chicken. A little sweet from the brown sugar and a little tangy from the mustard, without the strong mustard presence. I did tweak the recipe a little since the cayenne made it a little to hot for us. Changed it to red pepper flakes. Plus the sauce was not thick enough and just a little bland. You can see the recipe here: Sweet Mustard Chicken Thighs. It is in PDF format. I suppose that if you don’t like chicken thighs – second joints – you can use legs or breasts but make sure they still have the skin on and bone-in. And the wine went extremely well with the dinner. The wine is from Idaho as were the beets, beet greens and strawberries. Enjoy!

You might say that this was the “First of the Season” grilling, although I have grilled this past winter. This was a great change for dinner for one night. Loved the Beef Rib Steak from Homestead Farms. Medium rare, and tender. And of the two wines we had, we much prefered the Indian Creek Cabernet over the Bitner Vineyards Cab. The Indian Creek had a lot of fruit forward and went extremely well with the grilled beef. The Bitner Cab is probably on the “downhill side” of perfection.
The beef was from the Farmers Market, the sourdough was from the Farmers Market and the lettuce was from the Farmers Market. The potatoes were Idaho potatoes and the wines were from the Snake River AVA, Idaho. Eat Local! Enjoy!

Acme Bake Shop, Boise Farmers Market, Gaston Bakery, Meadowlark Farms, Purple Sage Farms, Think Local - Buy Local

05April2014_1_Boise-Farmers-Market_BoothsSeems like it has been months since we could shop for local products at the farmers market. It has! It’s been since last December when they closed for the winter. But now it’s Spring and the market is Open! Yea! It was great to see the vendors there from last year and their fantastic Idaho products. Acme Bake Shop (fresh Rye and Sourdough), Gaston Bakery (Croissants), Meadowlark Farms (fresh Eggs), Purple Sage Farms (awesome greens), Idaho Honey, Homestead Farms (bone-in Rib-Eye steaks), Rollingstone Chevre and a host of others that I know I am missing. Here are some photos from this morning. I have been asked by many people when Acme Bake Shop will open a store front. I got the answer this morning, “It’s not in the business plan at this time.” Beside the Boise COOP, I will check next week to see where in Boise you can purchase their bread. Cheers and hope to see YOU there next Saturday! And please, Think Local – Buy Local. Support your local farmer.

Some of the best eggs I have ever eaten. Free ranged local eggs. Rich. Beautiful orange yolks. Yummy for this breakfast. Meadowlark Farms, Janie Burns, will be at the Saturday Farmers Market at 10th and Grove starting April 5. See you at the Market, but not until you have made this breakfast. Enjoy!!

Really ……….. An awesome dinner. Leanne Felzien asked me if I liked these chops better – pastured and grass fed or the feed fed lambs. I like these and so did Robin. The chops were just a little smaller.

OK. It’s been two weeks since I have been in the kitchen. Withdrawl!! Back to the comfort of our awesome kitchen. What to make. It’s Sunday morning – I usually make some special breakfast. OK. Just got fresh eggs from Meadowlark Farms in Nampa, ID. We have some ham and Robin bought some fresh English Muffins. We have lemon and cayenne and unsalted butter. How about Eggs Benedict? Sounds good to me. Make the Hollandaise from scratch with Russ’ recipe for Easy Blender Hollandaise Sauce. And as long as it has taken me to write this, I could have made another batch. It’s that easy and that good! The recipe is also held permanently in the Boise Foodie Blog Recipes above. Here is the result of about 20 minutes in the kitchen. Yum-O!

25Dec2013_3b_Christmas_Rib-Eye-People_Ornament-By-SophiaIt’s not as if there was not enough for everyone to eat. There was plenty!! In a previous post on this blog, Christmas 2013 Dinner Prep, I posted some photos of the Rib-Eye being prepared and I also posted the recipe for the roast. This was not a standard cooking time. But it turned out terrific! Look at the recipe. And check out this “neat” tree ornament that Sophia made for Marnie and Mac. Great idea, as we are all Ravenswood Winery enthusiasts, as Robin helped to start it back in the mid 1970’s. Here are some photos of the dinner. Enjoy ….. We did!

Actually, pretty good meals today. Found out too, that BSU is a 2.5 point underdog in the Hawaii Bowl on December 24 (6:00pm Mountain Time on ESPN) when they play Oregon State. We’ll see! Anyway, here’s what we had for breakfast and then dinner. Enjoy! And, I just thought of this, here are the products for these two meals that were local: Eggs, spinach, sourdough bread, jam, bacon, chicken, potatoes and the wine for dinner was a 2010 Cold Springs L’attraction White Table Wine, a Gold Medal winner in the 2013 Idaho Wine Competition.

30Nov2013_1b_New-Boise-Farmers-Market_FB-ImageThe end of the Farmers Market is in sight. So sad! It has been a good season so far as we are concerned. Great indoor venues for these cold Boise, winter days. The new location for the summer months at 10th and Grove is also great.
We visited two new vendors today, Free Range Pizza (pictured here) and Neckar Coffee. Both were very good. Enjoyed the pizza – thin crust. Slightly crispy, but also a chewy interior. Good flavors and flavor combinations. Went very well with the coffee we had, a fresh ground, full bodied Guatemalan coffee. Great job to both vendors. If you are at the market or you see them at a function, be sure to get some of their product, either coffee or pizza or both. You will be pleased as were we. Cheers!
