10-Barrell-Brewing-In-BoiseYea! It’s finally opening here in Boise. It seems like it has been forever since we first heard that they were coming. It looks like this will be a great week to visit them as they are having many specials. Here is from their Facebook page. “The day is upon us!!! Opening for lunch at 11! We’re kicking things off with a bang. Everyone who shares this status will be entered to win a $100 gift card that will be ready at four o’clock today, just in time for some after work drinks! Get to sharing, and stay tuned for more give-a-ways all week!!” And I did share the status . Maybe ….. Just maybe. I plan to go tomorrow while the motorhome is being looked at. Hope to see you there! Cheers! And please VOTE above. Thanks.

22Feb2013_1a_Bluebird_Bleubird_MenuWe were lucky enough to be in downtown Boise around lunchtime and stopped in for the first time at Bleubird at 10th and Bannock. We met our Grandson Chris there for lunch. They make some fantastic sandwiches. They look good and they taste good. The soup that we had, Tomato Basil was every bit as good at Berryhill and Co. (That statement will open some eyes and make your heart skip a beat!)And of all things, they use Tupelo Honey on some of their sandwiches, like their Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. The photo to the left is actually their menu on the wall.

Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Onion and Fig Jam
Tomato Basil Soup
IPA

Hopefully, you get the idea. Look at the stemware. Nothing better than an IPA from an old fruit jar! It gets busy at noon, so plan to wait for a while. Get there a little early, 11am or so, and you should be fine. Well worth the wait, though. The food was very good and taste was excellent. They have house made drinks and teas, superb local beers and some wines are available. Enjoy! And let them know you saw this review. Cheers!

Westside Drive-In Opens Additional Location

16 Thursday Feb 2012

Yes. It is true! Chef Lou has opened a second location for the Westside Drive-In. And it is definitely a 5-Star location, just as the original location is. The new drive-in is located at 1113 Parkcenter Blvd, Boise (208) 424-0000 whereas the original drive-in is located at 1939 W State street, Boise (208) 342-2957. Chef Lou still has the same website at Chef Lou. The food is delicious and one can tell that his staff takes great care in producing a good product. Will we be back? Probably.

Here is page one of the Westside Drive-In Menu. Left-Click to see a larger view.

Here is Page Two of the menu.

Page 3

Page 4.
Look at the daily specials. Are you a Senior Citizen – or as my Mom said, “A Seasoned Citizen” – then you get a 10% discount every day! Want a recommendation? Don’t miss the Prime Rib! It is awesome.

Hard to pass this photo up! It says it all.

The interior. The Parkcenter location has indoor seating, something the State Street location does not have, although State Street has a heated outdoor dining area. Look at the smile on the young lady at the cash register. Everyone was smiling. So pleasant to see that!

I had the Fried Egg Burger and Fries and Robin had the BLT. Loved the mustard, or “special” sauce on mine, that had a hint of turmeric. It was delish!

Robin and I waited for you, but food this good just will not last long. There is a little lettuce left and some fry sauce (an Idaho thing). Maybe next time. Cheers!

Monte Cristo Sandwich

08 Saturday Jan 2011

I just thought that this was an interesting sandwich. From [No Recipes] make good dishes better, I received the following information and the recipe for the sandwich.

“For those of you that aren’t familiar with this American sandwich, it may sound a little odd. Part breakfast, part club sandwich, it’s a strange combination of sweet and savory from different meals in the day. But if you’re the type that likes to dip your bacon in maple syrup, you’ll love the Monte Cristo Sandwich.
It’s an impossible combination of sweet and savory, pillowy and custardy, crispy and tender, creamy and lean, all in one bite. A Monte Cristo embodies the spirit of brunch, and is one of the things I love chowing down on when I wake up far too late in the day to call my frist meal “breakfast”…” You can read the rest of the article at [No Recipe]. Here is the recipe and a Printable Version, at the Master Recipe List. Enjoy!

Monte Cristo Sandwich

Yield: 2 sandwiches
Source: [No Recipes] make good dishes better, http://norecipes.com/2011/01/08/monte-cristo-sandwich-recipe/

Ingredients:
1 egg
¾ c Milk
¼ c Flour
¼ c Pecorino Romano, fresh grated
½ t Nutmeg, fresh grated
6 thin slices of Challah bread or Brioche
1 T Butter
2 oz Emmentaler (Swiss) cheese, sliced thin
¼ lbs sliced Honey Roasted Turkey
¼ lbs sliced Black Forest Ham
Powdered Sugar
Strawberry or Raspberry Jam

Directions:
Whisk the egg, milk, flour, cheese and nutmeg together until smooth. Heat a skillet or griddle large enough to accommodate all the slices of bread in a single layer over medium heat. Dip the slices of bread into the egg mixture, giving it a few seconds on each side to absorb the batter.

Add the butter to the pan once it is hot, then place as many slices of battered bread onto it as you can fit. Wait till it is golden brown and crisp on one side, then flip and top 4 pieces of bread with the cheese. Put the turkey on 2 of cheesed slices of bread and the ham on the other 2 cheesed slices of bread.

Fry until the bread is browned and crisp on the second side, then make the sandwich by stacking a ham slice with a turkey slice topped with a plain piece of French toast. Slice the sandwiches in half, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with a small bowl of jam.

Baguette Deli – Vietnamese Sandwiches

24 Saturday Apr 2010

On our way back from watching the Boise Falcons, and before going to Cash and Carry for a good price on beef cheeks, we stopped in at the Baguette Deli-Vietnamese Sandwiches. Such a treat. Look at Our Review. Such a unique and wonderful change from the local hamburger places. A great blend of cultures. A Vietnamese sandwich on a great baguette. Look for the Pork Loaf (Cha lua) served with cured pork, egg mayo, pate, pickled vegetables, cilantro and jalapeno. Or look for the Scrambled Egg (Trung ga) served with pickled vegetables, cucumber, cilantro and jalapeno. Top it all of with a Mango Smoothie with Boba or a Thai Tea. Try it before you say it doesn’t sound good …. You’ll be surprised. They are located at 5204 W Franklin Rd, Boise (Next to Fred Meyer) (208) 336-2989.

Their fresh baguettes are supplied by the Orient Market, 4806 W Emerald St. Boise. You really should stop in at the market, too. Some really hard to find products. Both establishments are truly a great place to visit. Some really different and good food. Give them both a try. Cheers!
