05April2015_1_My-BDay_Table-FlowersMarnie and Mac gave me this wonderful birthday dinner. Thank-You! Delicious. Thank-You Chris for being there. Sorry we missed you Sophia.
The flowers here are from their front garden. Absolutely beautiful. Spring must be here, even tho\ugh there is snow in the mountains and there is a cold drizzly rain falling. April showers bring May flowers, or so it is said. There is even water in the irrigation canals, almost 15 days early! Hope there is enough water to last the season.
Do enjoy these photos of the dinner. Really wonderful.

The Wise Ole Owl says that if you have not tried this fantastically easy Easy Blender Hollandaise Sauce (Russ Terrell, this is still the best Hollandaise going!), you need to re-think your kitchen challenge. Notice, I said challenge not ability. If you read this blog, then your ability is sound. This recipe is soooooooooo easy and quick. And we tweaked the Eggs Benedict below and changed the bread. We did not use the English Muffin, as is traditional, but instead, we used a slice of lightly toasted Acme Bake Shop Sourdough. The bake shop is at the Boise Farmers Market each Saturday at 10th and Grove in Boise. Get yourself a loaf, or two! The best sourdough in town.

And if the Twisted Eggs Benedict are not enough for breakfast, help yourself to one of these awesome Acme Bake Shop Cinnamon Brioche Rolls. Forget all the calories today! These are also available, sometimes, at the Boise Saturday Market.

Acme Bake Shop, Boise Farmers Market, Gaston Bakery, Meadowlark Farms, Purple Sage Farms, Think Local - Buy Local

05April2014_1_Boise-Farmers-Market_BoothsSeems like it has been months since we could shop for local products at the farmers market. It has! It’s been since last December when they closed for the winter. But now it’s Spring and the market is Open! Yea! It was great to see the vendors there from last year and their fantastic Idaho products. Acme Bake Shop (fresh Rye and Sourdough), Gaston Bakery (Croissants), Meadowlark Farms (fresh Eggs), Purple Sage Farms (awesome greens), Idaho Honey, Homestead Farms (bone-in Rib-Eye steaks), Rollingstone Chevre and a host of others that I know I am missing. Here are some photos from this morning. I have been asked by many people when Acme Bake Shop will open a store front. I got the answer this morning, “It’s not in the business plan at this time.” Beside the Boise COOP, I will check next week to see where in Boise you can purchase their bread. Cheers and hope to see YOU there next Saturday! And please, Think Local – Buy Local. Support your local farmer.

food, garlic mustard, good combination

17Mar2013_1_St-Pat's-Day_Ham-Cheese-CroisantI went to Janjou Pâtisserie and got us each a plain croissant. Then added some Sun Valley Spicy Garlic Mustard, Ham, Cheese and Fresh Greens. Nice that the garlic in the mustard did not over power the wonderful, fresh baked croissant. The spiciness of the mustard and the sweetness added just enough variation to the sandwich for one to say, “What was that?” A really good combination of sandwich goodies. Left-Click to see a large view of the photo. Cheers!

Fresh Ham

15 Sunday Jan 2012

Right now, the house is filled with the smell of citrus and clove. The fresh ham, pictured here about to go into the oven, looks so delicious! The recipe for the ham, can be found by Clicking Here. It takes some time, but is well worth it. The original thought was to make enough so we can slice some down for sandwiches and I think we will have plenty. (Our Grandson Chris and his Girlfriend Madison gave us a meat slicer for Christmas.) This fresh ham (pork shoulder) was $1.35 per pound and it is boneless. It is so lean and not much fat at all. Enjoy!

The Fresh Ham came out of the oven and rested 15 minutes. Here it is sliced. (I made that platter!)
