Beef Rib Steak, bitner vineyards, Homestead Farms, idaho wineries, indian creek winery, Purple Sage Farms

You might say that this was the “First of the Season” grilling, although I have grilled this past winter. This was a great change for dinner for one night. Loved the Beef Rib Steak from Homestead Farms. Medium rare, and tender. And of the two wines we had, we much prefered the Indian Creek Cabernet over the Bitner Vineyards Cab. The Indian Creek had a lot of fruit forward and went extremely well with the grilled beef. The Bitner Cab is probably on the “downhill side” of perfection.
The beef was from the Farmers Market, the sourdough was from the Farmers Market and the lettuce was from the Farmers Market. The potatoes were Idaho potatoes and the wines were from the Snake River AVA, Idaho. Eat Local! Enjoy!

05April2014_1_Boise-Farmers-Market_BoothsSeems like it has been months since we could shop for local products at the farmers market. It has! It’s been since last December when they closed for the winter. But now it’s Spring and the market is Open! Yea! It was great to see the vendors there from last year and their fantastic Idaho products. Acme Bake Shop (fresh Rye and Sourdough), Gaston Bakery (Croissants), Meadowlark Farms (fresh Eggs), Purple Sage Farms (awesome greens), Idaho Honey, Homestead Farms (bone-in Rib-Eye steaks), Rollingstone Chevre and a host of others that I know I am missing. Here are some photos from this morning. I have been asked by many people when Acme Bake Shop will open a store front. I got the answer this morning, “It’s not in the business plan at this time.” Beside the Boise COOP, I will check next week to see where in Boise you can purchase their bread. Cheers and hope to see YOU there next Saturday! And please, Think Local – Buy Local. Support your local farmer.

Really ……….. An awesome dinner. Leanne Felzien asked me if I liked these chops better – pastured and grass fed or the feed fed lambs. I like these and so did Robin. The chops were just a little smaller.

We had some blueberries and Snake River peaches that we had to eat. So, make some waffles, some fried eggs, bacon and Mrs Butterworths. Probably not the healthiest, but still good. Here are the plates. Enjoy!!

Robin did not want5 eggs or Mrs Butterworths, so just pure maple syrup, unsalted butter and fruit on her waffles.

Such fun to make these. We had some Idaho trout and some Crown Roast of Lamb “left-over” and we had to use it. Here is what we did. The trout was left-over from the TVWS wine tasting and the lamb was the last that Brook, our neighbor, bought us for Christmas. Not difficult and very good. You can get the recipe for the Easy Blender Hollandaise Sauce by clicking the hotlink or finding it in the recipe file at the top of this page. This Hollandaise is so very easy to make and only takes 5 minutes at best. Try it. Enjoy!

Buy Local, New Boise Farmers Market, Think Local - Buy Local

26Oct2013_1_New-Boise-Farmers-Market_VeggiesCan’t say that we have not been expecting this – All good things must come to an end. The New Boise Farmers Market closed today. But don’t weep! They will be back in 2014. To be exact – The market will open again on April 5, 2014 at the 10th Street and Grove location. Yea! We look forward to this date! It can not come quick enough. We thank some of the vendors that we frequented: Acme Bake Shop, Meadow Lark Farms, Homestead Farms, Purple Sage Farms, Rollingstone Chevre and I know there are some that I have missed. You gave us such great products. We did pick up fresh eggs, an awesome Rib-Eye roast for 10 people for Christmas and a goose that we will make tomorrow in the 5-hour fashion and our weekly supply of Acme Bake Shop Sourdough bread. We are set! The photo above was taken at the market earlier this year. Today, we have 3″ of snow on the ground and it is 33 degrees right now.
But do enjoy the photos and remember:

The Boise Farmers Market re-opens on April 5, 2014
at
10th Street and Grove
in
downtown Boise!

Mark your calendars. Cheers.

I just received this information. And it has been a great saeson. I am so glad that they found an indoor venue for the market these past several weeks. We look forward to their return next Spring and maybe, just maybe, they will be able to continue year around. Hope so! Please do support them this last Saturday. Thanks.

Actually, pretty good meals today. Found out too, that BSU is a 2.5 point underdog in the Hawaii Bowl on December 24 (6:00pm Mountain Time on ESPN) when they play Oregon State. We’ll see! Anyway, here’s what we had for breakfast and then dinner. Enjoy! And, I just thought of this, here are the products for these two meals that were local: Eggs, spinach, sourdough bread, jam, bacon, chicken, potatoes and the wine for dinner was a 2010 Cold Springs L’attraction White Table Wine, a Gold Medal winner in the 2013 Idaho Wine Competition.
